Beltek is Friday and I have a half day due to reaching my plan this month (yay me!), so I am psyched to be up & outta here early on Friday. It’s about a 2 and a half hour drive, maybe closer to 3, to the spot. So far I am all by myself on the ride there. I’m leaving Westbrook between noon and two depending on what’s going on. If anyone reading this is in my vicinity and needs a ride there, drop me a line here and let me know.

If you are planning on being there, I’ll see you there!

If you are not going… you really should.

Change in Summer Concert Going Plans

Who could’ve thought that gas would be so fucking expensive already, I mean I know the prices will only continue to inflate but it’s been swift since my plans to travel to Baltimore for Virgin Mobile Fest. Everyone was in final agreement over the past few weeks that the trip was going to prove to be more money than we would like to spend to get there and back. I know I could have swung it, but I didn’t just move, my significant other didn’t leave me with a bunch of bills, etc..

Nine Inch Nails 2008So, I took the reigns and dropped some cabbage on a few tickets asap. First I snatched up Coldplay tickets for August 4th in Boston at the Garden. They went on sale @ 10am and I was there 1st thing to see what good that would do.. answer – none. I ended up getting nosebleeds cause I wasn’t willing to spend over $125.00 to be relatively close (middle seating). Fucking ridiculous. I like going to shows, but I guess there’s a limit. With the music biz grasping at whatever they can, I’m sure we’ll only see more of this. It must take a lot of gas to haul all that gear around too..

Bought some decent Nails tickets for Worchester on Aug 8th, for a decent price too. I have been waiting for this tour since year zero dropped, so it’s been a long time coming. I’m super excited for this show. got a bunch of folks going out that night between that and the Rancid show around the way. Should be a lot of laughs.

Beltek is the weekend before all this as well. Definitely excited to see what’s in store for this years festival! If you don’t know, hit the link, check it out and make plans to be there. Bring a tent and join our village for the weekend! I’m especially excited to see Metris, Vik44, Jason & Matty, Andy Gravity, Stryknyne, Trixie.. the list goes on.. I will actually be staying this time (rather than bailing at 6am for Portland as usual, ugh), any questions or need a ride, let me know and we can find a way!

So, should be an awesome week! Despite some minor setbacks, we are back up and running, completely untouchable. That’s right.

Summermix 08

So here’s some summer fun theme music just in time for solstice! A little late if you ask me. My apologies to my 2 loyal listeners.. From beach-cruisin’, to boots-knockin’, to rip-roarin’, there’s plenty that says summer time in here. Some usual suspects with new releases, some old school shit, and some summer rockers to get you movin’, all in all, just a lot of fun!

I’ve put the mix up on the site for your downloading pleasure. You should see a box in the left column that says Summermix 08 on it. It contains 3 archives, click to download each one. A dialog box will open, select Save to Disk. After you have saved all three, just unzip and extract the info by right-clicking on one of them and selecting the unzip option in the dropdown menu. The files will unpack leaving you the folder containing the tunes listed below. It should be that easy. If you have any problems, lemme know. (more…)

Some breaks & funkiness, some light, some dark, old and new, like Prague “It’s in there!” A little late but enjoy while you can! (more…)

Anyone Else Going?

Been watching for the line-up on this one. After the revealing of All Points West’s awful Line-up, I was really hoping Virgin would have a roster close to last year’s giant bill. While not quite as high profile as 2007, I am excited to haul out to Baltimore for 2 days of live music. This year will host 25 or so bands and Djs. I’ve got a crew together and we are making plans and taking time off already. Anyone else going?

Third

Ok, so I know those of you that are close to me already know my frustration here but I thought I’d vent into this series of tubes for a few while my laundry tumbles and I sit in my underwear on this chilly but bright Sunday afternoon.

My gripe: the new Portishead album, Third.

I have been pretty excited for this record to come out for a while now. I LOVE the other 2 records. They have a sound that is compelling, moving, somber yet exciting, somewhat nostalgic but remaining remarkably fresh (their first album Dummy still sounds relevant today and it’s over 10 years old). Their new album however, has left me very disappointed.

Shedding the edgy beats of the past 2 albums, I now see exactly what element made their sound so exciting and distinct. What’s left is a very flat and dreary collection of songs held up only by the hauntingly tortured voice of Beth Gibbons. The atmospheric grooves seem lackluster, strained. All the punctuation has been sadly omitted leaving a moodier, if sorely diffused album without any discernible peak or valley. (more…)

Daft Punk on my TV?

I was at my brother’s place last night with some friends fully engaged in the Sunday night ritual with dice and Mountain Dew in hands when I happened to glance at the TV screen where the Grammys ceremony was playing, fully expecting to see nothing but the same tired shit. I was half right.

Kanye West came on and at the first few bars I snapped up, forgetting he had done the Daft ripoff song at all. I assumed maybe someone’s entrance music for some stupid reason was Daft Punk (I mean who would that be if so?), because why on earth would they be at the Grammys? My eyes lingered for a second longer and to my surprise what do I see behind our overrated performer but a huge black pyramid!! Our table emptied instantly, we rushed into the room to see whether the duo would appear, all of us debating, doubting… (more…)

All Hail Meshuggah

Mmmmm math metal. Meshuggah returns in march with a new album that they have said departs from their last offering Catch 33, drawing from their past work. Thomas Haake is back on drums this time as well. As you may well know, I’m not the one screaming “put the drum machine down!” but this is definitely a welcome adjustment for them I feel.

Read the Blabbermouth article here

While Catch 33 was a bold experiment for Meshuggah to be sure, it surely lacked the ferocity and groove that their past work is known for. I for one, am very excited.

And just for the record, it’s not on every bittorrent site in the world right now. And I didn’t pirate that shit. And I’m definitely not listening to it right now. That would be wrong.
