Daft Punk on my TV?

I was at my brother’s place last night with some friends fully engaged in the Sunday night ritual with dice and Mountain Dew in hands when I happened to glance at the TV screen where the Grammys ceremony was playing, fully expecting to see nothing but the same tired shit. I was half right.

Kanye West came on and at the first few bars I snapped up, forgetting he had done the Daft ripoff song at all. I assumed maybe someone’s entrance music for some stupid reason was Daft Punk (I mean who would that be if so?), because why on earth would they be at the Grammys? My eyes lingered for a second longer and to my surprise what do I see behind our overrated performer but a huge black pyramid!! Our table emptied instantly, we rushed into the room to see whether the duo would appear, all of us debating, doubting…

I was surprised and delighted to see our doubts quelled as two glow suited robots came into view, manipulating the tune live with four touch screen sequencers! It was probably less than a minute but it made my night. I was impressed that it happened, but saddened that it was about 4 years late and had only made its way into the screen due to the far less impressive remake we were hearing.

I begrudgingly had to give it up to Kanye at that moment though for having the vision to do such a thing and show people something “new” or at least different from their daily intake of corporate mandated hip-hop. Daft Punk was on the tube in America, on the frickin Grammys! What next?
