My Family Tree Pt. 2

Three Fathers
Since my recent foray into genealogy over the past 2 months, I’ve managed to contact some folks that I may never have met. So many unfamiliar names start coming up while researching your own family. Weird. Of course it’s nice to meet some of them, especially when they too have an interest in their ancestors.
My cousin Bruce sent me some pictures the other day. We had never met until a few weeks ago. We still haven’t met face to face yet. He is my 1st cousin once removed on my my father’s side. He’s done a lot of research and has lots of info I’ve been incorporating into my database. He also has a connection to that side of the family that I don’t. My granduncles’ and aunts’ families were never close to ours (or each others..?). We were only a town away but it seemed like a huge divide, not really sure why. Seems folks on that side prefer to keep to themselves.
This picture is one that he sent. I’m pretty excited about it. The older fellow on the left is my great grandfather Harry Stanislaus McGowan whom I never met. The man holding the baby is my grandfather James Daniel McGowan who passed away in 2003. The baby is my father Daniel Gregory – according to Bruce. Seeing the three generations together in this picture is special to me.
I can’t wait to collect more photos like these of my family. I’ve only just started and my expectations are blown away. I will post more as they come in. If there is any family reading this, please contact me if you’d like to share photos, information, stories, etc.

I really love this photo, and also your words. I’ve got some of these kinds of geneological photos from my dad’s family as well, and I love to look at them. I love the way the print paper feels with its crimped edge, and the smell of an old dusty scrapbook or wooden box worked into it. There is so much history from them, so many stories that if you don’t ask about them now, may never be told again.
Can’t wait to see more photos and hear more about your quest. I need to get a scanner so I can post some of my old pics! Hey, print some extra copies and use them in collage, or even digitally transform them into new art… Keep it alive.
Hey Shawn, that is an awesome picture and I could tell right when I looked at it that it was gramp, haha! He looks just like Jimmy! Yeah anyways, this is an awesome idea I remember you were talking about it at Christmas, and was wondering how it was going. Let me know if you find anything interesting, and I’ll be checking in every once in a while to see
Hope all is well!
Take care.
