War Photographer by Jason Forrest (aka Donna Summer), animated by Joel Trussel.
This video rocks. Thanks to Gardner for making me aware of it forever ago. This shit always makes me crack up. One of my all time favorites.

Heavy Metal Addiction

(Reposted from http://www.thelocal.se)

A Swedish heavy metal fan has had his musical preferences officially classified as a disability. The results of a psychological analysis enable the metal lover to supplement his income with state benefits.
Roger Tullgren, 42, from Hässleholm in southern Sweden has just started working part time as a dishwasher at a local restaurant.

Because heavy metal dominates so many aspects of his life, the Employment Service has agreed to pay part of Tullgren’s salary. His new boss meanwhile has given him a special dispensation to play loud music at work.

“I have been trying for ten years to get this classified as a handicap,” Tullgren told The Local.

“I spoke to three psychologists and they finally agreed that I needed this to avoid being discriminated against.”

My father, grandfather, and great grandfather

Three Fathers

Since my recent foray into genealogy over the past 2 months, I’ve managed to contact some folks that I may never have met. So many unfamiliar names start coming up while researching your own family. Weird. Of course it’s nice to meet some of them, especially when they too have an interest in their ancestors.

My cousin Bruce sent me some pictures the other day. We had never met until a few weeks ago. We still haven’t met face to face yet. He is my 1st cousin once removed on my my father’s side. He’s done a lot of research and has lots of info I’ve been incorporating into my database. He also has a connection to that side of the family that I don’t. My granduncles’ and aunts’ families were never close to ours (or each others..?). We were only a town away but it seemed like a huge divide, not really sure why. Seems folks on that side prefer to keep to themselves.

This picture is one that he sent. I’m pretty excited about it. The older fellow on the left is my great grandfather Harry Stanislaus McGowan whom I never met. The man holding the baby is my grandfather James Daniel McGowan who passed away in 2003. The baby is my father Daniel Gregory – according to Bruce. Seeing the three generations together in this picture is special to me.

I can’t wait to collect more photos like these of my family. I’ve only just started and my expectations are blown away. I will post more as they come in. If there is any family reading this, please contact me if you’d like to share photos, information, stories, etc.

On Being Sober for 1 Year

It’s been a year now. As of January 1st, I haven’t drank a beer or done any elicit drugs for a whole year. It’s not like I was doing any mind altering drugs on a regular basis in the year or two that lead up to that day really, the booze was the real problem.

I decided that I needed to quit, and that I would. The story isn’t a sad, cautionary tale of woe. No “hitting rock bottom”, no “pink elephants” or bugs under my skin, no car crashes. No meetings, no clinics, no prayers to any gods. Just some self-actualizing and serious introspection. I know, pretty boring huh?

I wrote this on my myspace blog on April 8th this past year, I think it sums things up pretty well: (more…)
