More Bittorrent news. OiNK has been shut down. I never even used this site personally but I use many just like it. It will be interesting to see what develops from this. Go to Torrentfreak for the best updated info if this interests/concerns you.

News, Published online on 23 Oct 2007 Think of the industry crackdown on music piracy as Prohibition and OiNK as one of the world’s most notorious speakeasies. With over 180,000 users across the globe, this little piggy routinely went to the black market to leak major albums before their official release dates. To be sure, it wasn’t a Napster-sized phenomenon. But OiNK’s membership roster included a great number of bloggers and other musical opinion-shapers. So the blogosphere basically had a collective seizure this morning when the following message appeared on the OiNK homepage:
“This site has been closed as a result of a criminal investigation by IFPI, BPI, Cleveland Police and the Fiscal Investigation Unit of the Dutch Police (FIOD ECD) into suspected illegal music distribution.
A criminal investigation continues into the identities and activities of the site’s users”
Ahhhh! The fuzz!
“Time to buy a new hard drive and install everything and dump the old one, in case you get subpoena’d. Or buy copies of your entire library,” advised user Clamps in response to Stereogum’s article on the crackdown.
But slow down a minute… just who in the world are those acronyms behind the investigation? Here’s a little primer on the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry), an organization sworn to uphold the world’s sacred anti-piracy laws. Together with the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), IFPI had been investigating OiNK for the past two years.
Today, British and Dutch police raided the home of a 24-year-old man in Middlesbrough, England, who is allegedly the site’s admin. Interpol (which coordinated the sting) also seized the website’s servers in Amsterdam. As we’ve come to expect from them, the folks at The Daily Swam are all over this story, posting plenty of updates and providing a link to BBC-shot video of the actual raid…
I love this album. Thanks again to my brother Ryan for hipping me to a sound that I somehow managed to miss. Since Silverchair singer Daniel Johns is one half of the electronic/alternative duo, their fans might have been the only ones who really knew about the release as it got little or no airplay in the US.
So please go check them out at their website by clicking on the picture here, listen to some tunes, watch their videos (they are really really cool), and if you like it pop over to amazon or itunes and buy it! ~S

Here’s an email that was circulating at work that I figured I’d post here. It’s a really clever scam so don’t be fooled. Don’t trust any call regarding your credit card information unless you placed the call to the number on the back of your card!
THE SCAM:
The Holiday Season is just a little bit down the road and the bad guys are already trying to get free stuff by using your credit. I just received this so thought I’d forewarn you and forward it on.
New Credit Card Scam Snopes.com says this is true. http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcard.asp
This one is pretty slick since they provide YOU with all the information, except the one piece they want.
Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already have it. This information is worth reading. By understanding how the VISA & MasterCard Telephone Credit Card Scam works, you’ll be better prepared to protect yourself. (more…)
So I just got back a few days ago from the annual hunting trip I do every year back home
in the Northern Maine woods. And at this time of year there’s no other place I’d rather be.
We went to our hunting camp this year which is not too far from town (in good ol’ T2 R7 to be exact) and stayed for 3 nights. The weather was unseasonably warm, the 2 days since I’ve been home have been even warmer! Thursday was a beautiful day but no birds to be seen until late and we missed the ones we did see. Friday was overcast and got hazy toward the end of the day, raining pretty hard that night. We saw 8 birds and I shot 3. We saw a lot of game Friday, 3 deer, 2 moose, some rabbits, and the partridge of course. This was all just driving around the familiar area surrounding camp, along the Huber road and Sherman lumber company Road around Staceyville, Soldiertown, and Grindstone. Saturday, Clay and I went to the Scraggly Lake Preserve out past Patton in Aroostook County about an hour and a half north by highway. And even though it was an awesome sunny day and we were happy to see so much untouched, uncut land, we didn’t see any wildlife at all. It was Junior day and there was quite a bit of traffic. (more…)
It’s been a few days, so this is probably old news to any of you fans out there but I was excited enough that I thought it was worth a mention here. From nin.com as of October 8th:
“Hello everyone. I’ve waited a LONG time to be able to make the following announcement: as of right now Nine Inch Nails is a totally free agent, free of any recording contract with any label. I have been under recording contracts for 18 years and have watched the business radically mutate from one thing to something inherently very different and it gives me great pleasure to be able to finally have a direct relationship with the audience as I see fit and appropriate.”

How exactly is the Human Psyche effected by the trivial “power of suggestion?” When a thought or seed is planted into the human mind, the psyche responsively triggers a lingering product of that thought. For example, urban legends have been circulated throughout history; in doing so, a mindset is incorporated into the psyche, creating a deceitful illusion that cannot distinguish fact from fiction.
Because the human brain is so very complex, it is sometimes unable to relinquish imbedded legends and trauma – somewhat like a computer, imbedded with a virus. {Coincidentally, the computer virus parallels the human psyche because we tend to go around the harbored culprit by avoidance, until we are compelled to face it when negligence is no longer available to us.}
Eventually, the human psyche begins to hone in on the product whereby the mind can no longer extract necessary information to adequately function. This, in turn, can cause fatigue, insomnia, phobias and various other problems in one’s routine. As mentioned earlier, urban legends can distract the human psyche into believing something that is absolutely bogus…

Cool little article, something I’ve been thinking about lately. Enjoy ~S
I drink diet soda. Diet Pepsi, it’s good stuff. I like soda, I loved it as a kid. It was never in our refrigerator at home, it was milk, Cool-aid, or water in our house. Soda was a treat that I bought on my own, and as an adult it made it’s way into heavy rotation in my diet.
Maybe it’s because it was so special, or so discouraged as a child, that I’ve become such a regular drinker of it. I think that lately it has a lot to do with the sweet tooth I’ve developed after quitting drinking as well. Not to mention that after drinking beer like water for over 10 years, anything with a carbonated bite to it has a welcome sensation that I’ve recently become aware that I enjoy. Either way, I have made a decision to cut it out of my diet. Specifically diet soda, or anything for that matter containing the chemical aspartame. (more…)
And with it a new compilation of tunes to help you get through that long drive into winter. Not a mix with any blending skills to flex or obscure, ultra-rare, only released overseas b-sides to show off, just some shit I been diggin on now and in past falls back in the day. A little mood music. Something to take the edge off. Or to get your freak ON.. Whatever you use it for, it’s all good. Just don’t use it all baby, awww shit. Wow I’m retarded.
I’ve put the mix up on the site for your downloading pleasure. You should see a box in the right column that says Fallmix 07 on it. It contains 3 archives, click to download each one. A dialog box will open, select Save to Disk. After you have saved all three, just unzip and extract the info by right-clicking on one of them and selecting the unzip option in the dropdown menu. The files will unpack leaving you the folder containing the tunes listed below as well as a playlist file. It should be that easy. If you have any problems, please contact me.
If you’d like me to just send you a hardcopy, hit me up with your address at emajik@verizon.net and I’ll mail it off sometime this month, I promise.

So Demonoid is back up, but thanks to the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA), Demonoid is forced to block all Canadian traffic to the site. Read more here. Thank you Jarod for this letter that has been circulating myspace and other message boards. The guy tends to digress, but I’d be a ramblin’ mad Canuck in this case too!
To Whom It May Concern at the CRIA:
I have been an avid music collector for many years, and have approximately 1000 CD’s in my collection, not counting albums that I have purchased over the internet and own only digital copies of. I purchase approximately 30-40 new CDs per year. However, thanks to your recent decision to block Canadian users from accessing Demonoid, I have decided that I cannot continue to support this backwards, dysfunctional industry with my money any longer, and as such, I do not plan on purchasing music ever again if it means that one penny goes to your organization.
